Andrea Baldini and Andrea Cassara steps upward in the Men’s Foil Rankings
As per rankings by FIE, the Italian Andrea Baldini and Andrea Cassara stepped up in the Men’s Foil Ranking for the month of June. Baldini is currently ranked second and Cassara is placed at the third spot in the 2010-11 FIE Rankings. Chinese Sheng Lie is
leading the Men’s Foil Weapon over the three months.
Lie, Baldini and Cassara participated in the two international Fencing events in the month of June. Both, Cassara and Baldini, won one gold medal in both competitions, while Lie was able to get only the bronze medal in one competition.
The St-Petersburg World Cup took place on June 4 in Russia. Baldini captured the gold medal in the competition by defeating Cassara in the final with the score of 14-13. The score was tied at 13-13 points between both in the nine-minute bout. An additional
minute took the victory for Baldini with the decider hit. Lie was dropped in the competition in the table of 32.
In the second competition La Havana World Cup, which took place on June 17 in Cuba, Cassara took the victory and was honoured with the gold medal. He beat Ukrainian Rostislav Hertsyk in the final round with the score of 15-12. Cassara took 32 points for
his win in that competition.
Lie lost her semi-final bout from Hertsyk with 15-9 touches and finished on the third spot with a bronze medal. He grabbed a total of 20 point in that competition that was favourable for his top position. Baldini finished at 17th number in the
competition and lost four points.
