The Juventus-man suffered a calf-strain that could see him sidelined for the next 20 days, and the defender is expected to miss out on Euro 2012 group stages.
Barzagli stated that he is unaware of the exact number of days he will be required to rest before he can return to playing for Italy, but hoped that everything will work out for him.
The Bianconeri defender stated that the calf is a big muscle, and revealed that the medics are optimistic that he will make a quick recovery. The Old Lady centre-back stated that the sanguinity of the doctors have filled him with
even more energy to make a speedy recovery.
While talking to press, the 31-year-old said:
“Let’s hope it all works out. I don’t know how long I will be out for, you’ll have to ask the doctors… The calf is a big muscle and if the medical staff are optimistic about my recovery then I am even more optimistic than they
are.”
Barzagli revealed that the problem in his calf occurred in the last few minutes of the friendly against Russia, when he stretched his leg to reach for the ball.
The Juventus-man stated that the strain did not seem like a substantial one at that moment, but revealed that his calf got worse the next day.
The Bianconeri defender stated that his leg feels much stronger now, and insisted that he will continue hoping to make a return for Italy in the Euros.
“The problem occurred in the last few minutes of the game against Russia on Friday when I stretched for the ball. At the time it didn’t seem like a big issue, but I was limping the day after. I feel better now, but we’ll have to
wait and see.”
