Andrea Di Nino claims UAE can produce a top class swimmer: Swimming News
Coach to Italy Swimming, Andrea Di Nino has expressed firm belief in UAE swimming talent. He said that UAE has world’s top most swimming facilities and if they utilise them effectively on their youth then there is no way that UAE could fail to produce top
international swimmers.
Nino stressed that UAE only lacks the swimming culture and if they could promote swimming in their generation, then they could definitely occupy the podium at international world stages.
Nino’s remarks were driven by his recent visit to Dubai at the Dubai Sports Complex. He supervised a half-month camp with Kenya’s Jason Edward and Milorad Cavic at the Dubai facilities. He admired the facilities available to them and uttered that such facilities
are present in very few countries.
In addition, the camp also provided a chance to locals to interact with these swimmers and learn about swimming. Nino said that if we want to improve the swimming culture, it is necessary for international swimmers to meet with locals at the pool.
Nino said, “It’s a great experience to be in touch with kids during the weekend. We have to bring in top-level swimmers to improve the skills of local kids and try also to bring international coaches which will help raise the level of local coaches.”
Furthermore, Kenya’s Jason Dunford, who occupied a gold medal in the 50m butterfly at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, also affirmed Nino’s statement. Dunford said, “I’m the first one to qualify for the Olympics from Kenya. The facilities here are much
better than Kenya and there is no reason why with the right desire a young swimmer can’t make it to the top”.
Dunford also expressed that they must encourage their swimmers for competitive swimming so they could enter the world of swimming elites. He stressed that some of the UAE’s swimmers displayed stunning performances at the 14th FINA Short Course
World Championships in Dubai last year.
Cavic supported his argument by saying that he came to enhance the swimming culture in UAE and he swam in one of the best swimming pools of the world. He explained that they created a clinic for local citizens so they could work with youngsters and built
a healthy relationship. He said that the two-week camp provided us with great opportunity, as we were able to use the best facilities while youngsters had a chance to watch us and learn from us.
Cavic emphasised that many nations consider swimming culture to be of great importance and he was very hopeful that his contribution at the swimming camp will be fruitful in promoting the sport among UAE locals.
