Andrea Dovizioso conducts first test with Monster Yamaha Tech3 at Valencia – MotoGP news
The Italian MotoGP rider, Andrea Dovizioso ran his first test session with Monster Yamaha Tech3 squad.
He left Honda Racing Corporation due the budget cut for the 2012 MotoGP project.
After completing the 2011 MotoGP season in third position under Repsol Honda livery, he joined the Tech team for the 2012 season.
Tech3 Team Manager, Herve Poncharal was impressed with his performance with RC212V and aimed to call him in.
After the departure of Colin Edwards to Forward Racing for the 2012 season Tech3 needed a fast rider. Dovizioso was the best choice from the grid.
Andrea Dovizioso said, “Firstly I want to thank the Tech 3 staff for making me feeling immediately welcome and at home this week. I've been really excited to start this new adventure together and it was a positive and productive test.”
The Italian rider took the initial taste of the 1000cc YZR-M1 at the Ricardo Tormo circuit. He was able to score seventh position on the first test day, with a best lap time of 1 minute and 33.859 seconds.
While on the second day, he improved his pace and positioned himself at fifth place with best lap time of 1 minute and 33.256 seconds.
During the test session, he was impressed by the power delivery of 1000cc M1. Apparently, the bike seems to complement his riding style, which can prove beneficial for him in 2012.
The Italian rider added, “This test was my first chance to ride the 1000cc bike and the power of the engine is very impressive. The riding style is very close to 800cc and the bike has a lot of good points for my style.”
Meanwhile testing the 2012 M1, he felt that the bike can be improved in some aspects. A lot of crucial technical data was collected with the help of Dovizioso.
The technical data will be analysed back in Yamaha factory to improve the setup for the next outing at Sepang, Malaysia.
Now the Italian rider is looking forward to take a break during the inter-season span. He will be resting and for the coming 2012 season. He hopes to continue with the positive work done at Valencia.
