Andrea Dovizioso ends his last Repsol Honda season at 3rd place in championship at Valencia – MotoGP
The Italian MotoGP rider, Andrea Dovizioso ended his last season with Repsol Honda season at third place in the 2011 world championship in Valencia, Spain.
Dovizioso struggled hard through the year to score his best season finish in 2011. The Italian rider collected his seventh podium finish at the MotoGP season finale event held on the Ricardo Tormo circuit.
Dovizioso said, “I’m so happy with third place in the Championship, it’s a great achievement born from a lot hard work throughout the year. Before arriving here I knew I only had a few opportunities to arrive in front of Dani, because he has been always
so fast here.”
The Italian rider had to struggle a lot during the season’s final race weekend at Valencia. He was slower than his teammates Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa.
Dovizioso added, “Dani was faster than me also in this race weekend so I had to make a good strategy to beat him. Considering that I had a soft front tyre, I knew I couldn’t push hard for 30 laps, I tried to stop him when I was in front of him, then every
time he overtook me.”
Unfortunately, he was not able to take a decent start position on the grid. Dovizioso took from eighth position on the grid and jumped to third place in the race after the first corner.
The crash in the first bend of the initial lap took out Alvaro Bautista of Rizla Suzuki, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden of Ducati and Randy de Puniet of Pramac Racing.
The crash was triggered by Bautista when he accidentally raised the rear end of his GSV-R and slid into his fellow riders.
However, Dovizioso took the opportunity and stepped up to the third place in the race with his teammates Stoner leading the race and Pedrosa in second place.
Dovizioso closely chased Pedrosa, while Ben Spies of Yamaha hung onto the Italian’s tail.
The Spanish factory Honda rider was fast at the Ricardo Tormo circuit and holds good results at the venue. Pedrosa was able to continue his fast pace in the race.
On the other side Dovizioso continuously attacked Pedrosa to take the second position in the race and finally finished in third position.
