Andrea Dovizioso of Repsol Honda steady in practices at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso performed steadily with improvement in the second free practice session held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
The Italian Repsol Honda rider was placed at fifth place in the morning free practice session with his best effort of 1:22.911 seconds. Later in the afternoon session, he was able to shed off couple of tenths from his previous best effort to place himself
at the fourth position. His best lap time in FP2 was 1:22.537 seconds with a top speed of 262.4 Km/h.
Dovizioso said, “This afternoon we did a comparison between two different set ups and the feeling improved. We still have a gap of four tenths from the first rider, but we lapped more consistently.”
The Italian rider has also been consistent in the last few races and stood close to the top riders. Occasionally he has also scored podium places in the ongoing 2011 MotoGP season. In past at the Laguna Seca, Dovizioso has been able to perform well and fight
for podium finishes. In 2008 and 2010, he slightly missed the podium finish and ended up with fourth position in both events.
Dovizioso further said, “We need to keep on working to improve the pace and the feeling with the front but in general I’m confident that tomorrow we will be able to make another step forward. Compared to the first free practice, lap times came easier this
afternoon and tomorrow we will continue working in this direction.”
The Italian’s team and himself are concerned to improve the ride feel from the bike especially from the front end. After an improved lap time, Dovizioso is more confident to score even better lap times in the FP3 session. Overall, the goal for the Repsol
trio is to go strong into the qualifying practice session and hold the top three seats of the grid.
Dovizioso’s both teammates have also shown consistency in the both practice sessions to rank in the top three slots. Let’s see how the team fares in the remainder of the US Grand Prix weekend.
