Andrea Dovizioso of Repsol Honda to try to sustain third place in championship at Valencia – MotoGP
The Italian Repsol Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso is headed towards Valencia for MotoGP’s final event taking place on November 6, 2011.
The last race of the season will be held in the memory of Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. Super Sic died in a fatal crash during the Malaysian GP.
Dovizioso said, “I’m very sad for the loss of Marco. I’m going to Valencia not in the right frame of mind for a race. I will wear Marco's number 58 on the chest of my leathers, close to my heart, this is the only thing that counts.”
Every rider in the MotoGP grid is trying to honour Simoncelli in his own way. The rising MotoGP star had an unfortunate end to his life and racing career.
Since the start of the 2011 season, Dovizioso and Simoncelli have ridden close to each other in many races. Both compatriots have several times been engaged in position battles giving tough time to each other.
Many times Dovizioso has taken the win from Simoncelli. However, Super Sic’s had taken the duel to earn couple of podium finishes after improvement. Both riders have been racing rivals in different classes.
Dovizioso further said, “I have raced with Marco throughout my whole career, he was “the rival” and now that he is no longer with us, he has left a big void and I want to convert this feeling of emptiness to determination. I hope to get a good result at
Valencia.”
Dovizioso is highly focused to end his season at the third place in the MotoGP world championship. He currently holds a 4-point lead over teammate Dani Pedrosa.
It is crucial for him to end the season with third position on the points table to get a good season start with Monster Yamaha Tech3 in 2012.
The race will be slightly tough for the Italian and his Aussie teammate, but for Pedrosa it has been a successful circuit.
Since Pedrosa is in chase of Dovizioso, it will be hard for him to keep up the pace. The Italian is also not fond of racing at Valencia.
As it will be his last race with the Honda family, he hopes to score good results that would complement his long racing career with HRC.
