Andrea Georoff clinches Women’s 50m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Andrea Georoff of MAC-NC clinched gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on first day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Thursday, July 12.
The 29-year-old Georoff stayed considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the single lap freestyle event and made her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her epic pace and laudable start, Georoff devastated hopes of her challengers, who were eyeing the title by producing a time of 26.16 seconds.
Gold medallist remained 0.64 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Caitlin Cooper of DYNA-GA, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting an effort of 26.80 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Natalie Labonge of Greensboro Swimming, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade for silver medal by reporting a time of 27.03 seconds.
Bronze medallist was chased by Allison Hendren of Silver Bullet EL, who stayed just 0.11 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in a time of 27.14 seconds for fourth position.
The 20-year-old Hendren was chased by Shayla King of Atlanta Dolphins, who stayed just a stroke behind her former finisher and clocked an effort of 27.30 seconds for fifth position.
King was trailed by Haley Durmer of DYNA-GA, who stayed just 0.10 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 27.40 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Durmer stayed marginally ahead of her following swimmer, Sarah Love of Lakeside-KY. The 17-year-old Love failed to match Durmer’s pace on the finishing end and proved her eligibility for seventh position of the discipline by producing a time of 27.53 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Danielle Liu of Duke Aquatics-NC, who failed to surpass any of her opponents in the shortest freestyle discipline. Liu stayed 0.06 seconds slower and clocked a timing of 27.59 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Georoff expressed happiness over her accomplishment and aroused expectations of her supporters by saying that she will work hard and try to excel at the upcoming meets.
