Andrea Georoff secures Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Andrea Georoff of MAC-NC secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Saturday, July 14.
The third day of the tournament included races of 100m butterfly in Women and Men’s category while the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of all participants.
Firstly, Georoff dictated terms to her opponents in the double lap butterfly discipline, as she remained untouchable throughout the event.
With her astonishing pace, Georoff remained in a lead of two body lengths over her strongest challenger and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.61 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Meredith Hoover of Una NCAC-NC, who remained 2.15 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.76 seconds.
Hoover was chased by Megan Bestor of SA-GA, who remained only 0.18 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and finished third in the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.94 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Daniell Jansen of RAYS-OH, who stayed 0.14 seconds slower and made her way to the finishing wall as fourth position holder by hitting the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Ellie Sills of SA-GA, who stayed 0.60 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.68 seconds.
Similarly, Sills was followed by Sarah Love of Lakeside-KY, who completed her race in sixth best place by posting a time of 1 minute and 03.71 seconds.
Afterwards, the arena experienced notable efforts of Lucas Gerotto of WA-KY in the Men’s 100m butterfly. The 20-year-old Gerotto stunned the aquatic crowd with his commendable form in the discipline, as he showed no leniency to his opponents.
Gerotto thrashed his challengers with his scintillating form in the discipline as he reached the victory stand for gold medal with the timing of 54.44 seconds.
He was followed by Pedro Oliveira, who stayed 1.17 seconds slower and secured silver medal of the event by clocking a time of 55.61 seconds.
Oliveira was followed by John Newell of NSS-NC, who stayed 0.32 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 55.93 seconds for bronze medal.
The bronze medallist was chased by Sam Lewis of DYNA-GA, who stayed 0.36 seconds apart and finished fourth in the event by posting a time of 56.29 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Michael Camper of Silver Bullet EL, who posted a time of 56.39 seconds.
Furthermore, Georoff and Gerotto expressed happiness over their victories in the butterfly discipline at the prize ceremony of the event.
