Andrea Guardini claimed his third consecutive stage at the Le Tour de Langkawi 2012
Andrea Guardini continued his winning streak at the Le Tour de Langkawi as the Italian claimed his third consecutive victory at the Malaysian race.
He completed the 187.6 kilometre pursuit to Parit Sulong in a fastest time of 4 hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds to overcome Raymond Kreder and Anuar Manan during the race.
Andrea opened his winning account at the Tour de Langkawi and bagged his third consecutive victory of the season during the third stage of the race.
Guardini previously won five stages of the Tour de Langkawi 2011. He secured the first, second, sixth, seventh and tenth stage of the race.
The cyclist also grabbed two stages during the Tour of Turkey and achieved the top podium position after the final classifications of the race in the previous season.
He was delighted after the third stage victory and revealed that his opponents tried their best to eliminate him from the race.
Guardini explained, “There was a king of the mountains prize with ten kilometres to go, Colnago tried to make the race hard, they tried to stay in the bunch, leaving me behind”.
“But my team got me back and, like always, they were trying hard to do exactly what I wanted. I can savour their good job,” he continued.
Raymond Kreder of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Anuar Manan of Team Champion System occupied the second and the third positions.
Meanwhile Andrea Piechele and Valentin Iglinskiy finished fourth and fifth during the race.
Shinichi Fukushima, Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi and Taiji Nishitani dominated during the three sprints, while Matteo Rabottini succeeded during the mountains category of the race.
David Zabriskie is still leading the overall classifications after the third stage, while Adam Phelan, Darren Lapthorne, Tom Danielson and Jose Rujano Guillen achieved the next four positions.
Zabriskie told VeloNation, “It was crazy hot out there today – it’s hot at the Tour, but there’s humidity as well that’s very hard, it’s tough on the body, but it’s also hard to breathe”.
Andrea is now leading the point’s classifications with a total number of 30 points in his pocket.
Anuar Manan and Raymond Kreder are at the second and third positions, with 26 and 25 points, respectively.
