Andrea Guardini secures his first stage win of the season at the Le Tour de Langkawi 2012
Andrea Guardini succeeded at the 151 kilometre chase to Melaka in a fastest time of 3 hours, 35 minutes and 19 seconds to claim his first victory of the season.
The Italian was challenged by Jacob Keough and Christian Delle Stelle but the duo had to settle for the second and the third positions, as Andrea refused to give anything away on the bright sunny day in Melaka.
He briefed after crossing the finish-line, “I needed to come back to Malaysia to be a winner again, this is my fourth stage race of the year and I didn’t manage to win any stage in the first three”.
Guardini continued, “That was partly because of bad luck and partly because my adversaries were stronger than me I have managed to win here on the first opportunity, in the finale my team was super, I had an excellent train and I was helped in the best way possible by my teammates”.
Anuar Manan, Raymond Kreder and Jani Tewelde secured the fourth, fifth and sixth positions in the respective order.
David Zabriskie started the race with the first overall position and he managed to maintain his overall dominance, despite the 74th place finish at the race.
Sea Keong Loh secured 15 important UCI points and dominated the first, the second and the third Sprints of the race, while Floris Goesinnen dominated the mountains category of the event.
Guardini is now leading the point’s classifications with a total number of 15 points in his pocket.
Sea Keong Loh, Jacobe Keough and Christian Delle Stelle are holding the next three positions with 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Floris Goesinnen is dominating the Mountains classifications while Sea Keong Loh, Muhamad Adiq Husainie Othman and Freddy Excelino Gonzalez achieved the second, third and fourth positions.
Team Garmin Barracuda is leading the team’s classification with a total time of 12:02:35.
Team Drapac Cycling is 1 minute and 10 seconds behind at the second position, while Team Androni Giocattoli is holding firm at the third overall position.
Zabriskie is now eyeing the 187.6 kilometre stage 3 of the race and is keen to maintain his dominance to claim his first overall victory of the 2012 season.
