Andrea Hlavackova cripples Irina Falconi in round one – Family Circle Cup 2012
Lucky loser, Andrea Hlavackova, blasted past the local wild card entrant, Irina Falconi, with a breadstick at the Family Circle Cup 2012 on Monday. She joggled up a 6-1, 7-5 success against the world number 99 to charge into the second round at this WTA
Premier event held in Charleston, South Carolina.
Hlavackova conquered the battle against the American starlet in one hour and 41 minutes at the Family Circle Tennis Center after showing excellent skills. The contestants previously faced each other at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last year and after
earning this victory, the 25-year-old improved to a 2-0 lifetime against the Ecuador-born contender.
The Plzen native stormed into the opening round of this green clay court tournament and after drawing the first blood, he leaped to a 2-0 lead. After Falconi held his serve in the third game, Hlavackova unleashed her true form and went on a four-game rampage.
The Czech fended off both breakpoints she faced and capitalised on three out of five break chances to pull out the breadstick.
Ranked 124th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Hlavackova, maintained her intensity in the follow-up set and stroke out the opening four games successively to go 4-0 up. Apart from losing her serve twice and levelling the scores at 5-5, the Czech cashed
in another break chance in the last game to seal the set by winning seven games to five.  
The 25-year-old lost to the Kazakhstani star, Yaroslava Shvedova, in the final round of the qualifying competition. However, after she outshined her opponent completely in this first round match against the American. The Czech produced a slightly lower first
serve share of 57 per cent as compared to Falconi’s 61 per cent but amazingly marked 27 out of 39 points on it.
Next challenge for the Czech is the sixth seeded German, Sabine Lisicki, who received a bye into the second round after being a top eight player of the tournament.
Vera Dushevina from Russia will accompany the Czech in the second round. The world number 78 was broken down three times but capitalised on four out of nine break opportunities to formulate a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory.
