Andrea Hlavackova crushes Melanie Oudin to advance into the second round – Bell Challenge 2011
Czech Republic’s Andrea Hlavackova dumped American Melanie Oudin with a breadstick at the Bell Challenge 2011, an International level WTA event held in Quebec, Canada. She registered a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the 19-year-old American
to secure a second round spot on Wednesday.
Ranked 103rd in the WTA rankings, Hlavackova took sixty-nine minutes to earn a straight set victory against the American, ranked 25 spots below her, on their first meeting. She not only took lead in the head-to-head
series by 1-0 against Oudin but also booked a second round place in the WTA event.
25-year-old Czech thundered into the opening set and unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off first four games in a row before Oudin could hold on. She kept her composure afterwards and wiped out the following two games as
well to pocket a breadstick.
Hlavackova manifested a similar first serve share of 62 percent but registered a magnificent 77 percent win on it. She was never threatened by any breakpoint and converted three out of four breakpoint chances to her advantage.
The Czech starlet took the first blood in the final set as well but lost her serve in the third game. Hlavackova, however, converted another breakpoint opportunity to her advantage in the sixth game and held her remaining serves
to clinch the set with a 6-3 win.
She wasn’t at her best in this set as she clobbered a lower first serve share but earned an impressive 73 percent win on it. Furthermore, the Czech warded off two out of three breakpoints faced and capitalised on two out of six
breakpoint chances to her advantage.
Next challenge for Hlavackova is her second seeded compatriot Lucie Safarova who also earned a breadstick after trashing American Jill Craybas later that day.
The seeded Czech eased past the 37-year-old American in straight sets in just fifty-one minutes on their second meeting. She faced zero breakpoints and capitalised on five out of fourteen breakpoint opportunities to her advantage
to register a 6-2, 6-1 victory. She added cherry to the match by registering a perfect win on her first serve share.
