Andrea Hlavackova rallies past Paula Ormaechea to enter main draw – Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012
Czech rising star, Andrea Hlavackova, overpowered the Argentinean youngster, Paula Ormaechea, in a tipsy-turvy three setter at the Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012 on Sunday. She nudged up a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory against the 19-year-old to labour into the
first round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) clay court event taking place in Rome, Italy.
Hlavackova took down the world number 123 after capitalising on six out of 12 break opportunities in their second encounter. After earning this limelight in two hours and 31 minutes, the Czech not only avenged her loss against Ormaechea at the Brussels WTA
event last season but also booked a spot in the opening round at this Premier 5 event.
The 25-year-old thundered into Foro Italico and stroke out the opening three games in a row with two breaks of serve. She lost her serve in the very next game but cashed in another break chance in the fifth game to leap to a 5-1 lead. Despite losing her
serve again in the eighth game, Hlavackova plucked her serve once more and clinched the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The Argentinean made a shaky start in the second set and suffered the first blow in the opening game to trail at 0-1. However, she unleashed her skills after that and went on a six-game killing spree, eventually sealing the equaliser with a breadstick.
Hlavackova re-gained her strength in the final set and ultimately carved out the decider with a 6-3 win. She gifted away her serve in the opening game but stroke out the following four games successively before Ormaechea could hold on. The Czech slid her
remaining serves and clinched the decider with a 6-3 score line.
All in all, the Czech clobbered a better first serve share of 78 per cent as compared to Ormaechea’s 76 per cent and amazingly availed 40 out of 72 points on it. She also sought 12 break chances and smoothly stole the show.
Up next for the Czech is the Russian star, Nadia Petrova, in the first round.
The Australian star, Anastasia Rodionova, also earn the fame later that day. She trashed Russia’s Vera Dushevina in straight sets in almost one and a half hour.
