Andrea Petkovic “It's been a rough comeback” – Tennis News
Former world number nine, Andrea Petkovic, lost a battle against the 12th ranked Serb superstar, Ana Ivanovic, in the second round of the Generali Ladies Linz on 11th of October. She could just manage a single win in
the contest that proved to be her first in four successive tournaments. It has been a roller coaster ride for the 25-year-old German who missed the bulk of the season due to niggling injuries forcing her to stay at the sidelines for a long period of time.
She played in January at the Brisbane International as well as Apia Sydney International but never came back to the tennis circuit until the Federation Group tie against Australia in April. She played in the Porsche Tennis Grand
Prix in Stuttgart but couldn’t surpass the second round; retiring due to the injury issues. Until August, Petkovic was not seen in action in any contest that forced her to miss out three back-to-back Grand Slam Championships including the Australian Open,
the Roland Garros French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. She has dropped a whole lot of points in the process that has deteriorated her ranking to world number 192 at the moment.
Petkovic couldn’t win a single match in the US Open Championship, the Toray Pan Pacific Open and the China Open. Finally, she defeated the Czech star, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, in the opening round of the Generali Ladies Linz
to end the series of defeats. However, she couldn’t last longer as her best friend from Serbia, Ana Ivanovic, ended her dreams in the second round.
Sharing her thoughts about the rehabilitation progress and future plans, Petkovic commented, “I'm playing in Luxembourg next week, and then I will go to the new tournament in New Delhi, which I'm really excited about because I've
never been to India before. I'm looking forward to collecting some more matches this year and seeing if I can keep improving my game and my results.”
She further added, “It's been a rough comeback, but I'm just happy I'm back on the court and enjoying almost every minute - I'm losing more than I should, but that's normal, and I'm just trying to find my match rhythm again. Every
match is still special.”
Everything happens for a reason and the downfall of the German superstar might just give her a new willpower to strive for the top rank in the world, the place she is destined to be one day if she stays fit and regains her lost
form.
