Andrea Petkovic banishes Eugenie Bouchard in the 1st round – Rogers Cup 2011
23-year-old German, Andrea Petkovic defeated her 17-year-old Canuck opponent, Eugenie Bouchard with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on the Hard courts of the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto, Canada in 79 minutes.
The German was in her form but with a wobbly hand struck 2 double faults, out of which one was a net ball while the other was a line fault, however her opponent had smashed an ace and gained a point.
The 23-year-old bruised her opponent psychologically hitting powerful and brutalizing shots with her serve which won her 59% of her total service points. Moreover, by re-coiling her replies she achieved 57% in her total return points, and hence, she accomplished
a total of 59% in the total set score, which resulted in 10 points more than Bouchard’s.
Petkovic saved 7 of the 8 break points, hence, giving only one break point to her opponent, along with, clenching 60% of break points she faced, whereas, the 17 year old (Bouchard) had a failing defence which did not help her in saving 60% of her break points
and only won her 1 break point. Thus, winning the total set with 58%.
Tuesday was not a bad day for the top seeds instead it proved lucky, hence Petkovic enjoyed her victory of the first and second set. Having lost the first set with winning two game points, Bouchard was expected to fail in the second and just as it was expected,
she lost the second set with another 6-2 loss.
This time Petkovic struck one less double fault than her previous set, while Bouchard struck 2. Although, neither of the players smashed an ace, Bouchard lost most of her points in the second serve, where she barely won 3 out of 14 points, making it a pathetic
21% and hence, could only put together 41% win in her total service points. Mean while, Petkovic had a consistent performance in her service and bagged an exceptional 63% win her total service points.
Bouchard was only capable of attaining a pitiable 38% win her total return points against Petkovic who won 17 out of 29 points, making it a commendable 59% win in her total returns.
Andrea Petkovic secured a place in the second round of the Rogers Cup 2011 by accomplishing a total win of 60%, in the total set score, which were 11 more points than the 17 year-old
Standing at 1.80 meters tall the German, Andrea Petkovic is currently ranked at world n umber 10 and is a top seed at the Rogers Cup 2011.
