Andrea Petkovic eases past Jarmila Gajdosova into 2nd round – Western & Southern Open 2011 
Contesting for the fifth time in their professional career were Andrea Petkovic and Jarmila Gajdosova; who battled it out on the hard courts of Lindner Family Tennis Centre in Mason, Ohio at the Western and Southern Open 2011. The German Petkovic qualified to the second round of the event by over powering her Aussi (Gajdosova) opponent in 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-2 win.
Both the players had a poor accuracy but the 24-year-old Aussie struck four more double faults than her opponent and also managed to smash five aces, hence negating the points lost and achieved.
The world number 11 (Petkovic) won the pitch and with an admirable serve bagged 22 out of 38 service points, making it a praiseworthy 58% win against the world number 30 (Gajdosova) who had a dominant serve and clogged  25 of 38 points, making it 8% more points of the total service points in the first set.
The German served 5 break points out which she was able to save 3 whereas, Gajdosova was only able to save 50% of her break points but managed to capitalize on 40% of break points won.
Petkovic’s total return points were 34% while Gajdosova was capable of winning an above average 42% of her total return points. Hence, Gajdosova won the set against Petkovic by achieving 56% of total set points.
Unable to bear the loss the world number 11 bounced back into the second set by smashing five aces and in the next few moments struck three line faults.
Although, Gajdosova had a commendable serve of 56% her opponent had a strong fore hand with sagacious placement of the ball, she won 58% of her total service points.
Both the players had a similar return with a difference of 2% more points Petkovic had attained 44% in her total return points.
The scores won between both the players were extremely close, and hence, the set was pushed to a tie breaker. However, Petkovic lead in the tie breaker and served the set to her opponent at 7-5
The final deciding set of the match was the third set, but it was a comprehensive victory for Petkovic, who restricted her opponent to only two games and won by 10 points more than her Aussie adversary in the total set score.
With her expertise the 23-year-old served for the third set and won an exceptional 74% in her service points along with winning 40% of her break points and did not endorse a single break point to her opponent.
Andrea Petkovic qualified to the second round of the Western and Southern Open 2011 in 2 hour and 52 minutes by accomplishing 60% of total set points.
