Andrea Petkovic eyes Grand Slam title in 2012 – Tennis News
World number ten, Andrea Petkovic, was backing Samantha Stosur throughout her US Open campaign earlier this year and the German tennis ace was thrilled to witness her ideal winning the final against the former champion from
America, Serena Williams. She proclaimed that Stosur’s triumph at the US Open motivated her to get herself prepared for the Slam challenge in 2012.
Talking about her best friend Stosur, she said, “I was really cheering for (Stosur) throughout the US Open because she’s such a great personality and such a great girl. I was really happy that she (won). It gives all of us
a lot of motivation, also Petra Kvitova winning in Wimbledon. For all of us it’s a sign that any of us can do it. But I must say Sam had shown her quality before, making the final at Roland Garros (in 2010).”
She commences her new season at Brisbane International tournament and looks to claim the title at an alien soil. 24-year-old German will look to gain some momentum before the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian
Open, starts from January 16th. She has her sight set on the Slam title in 2012 and the Australian Open might be the place where she fulfils her dream.
It has been one of the most successful years for the German professional as she managed to climb 22 ranks, starting the year as world number 32. No one ever thought that she would break into top ten performers of the world
because everyone had their eyes set on former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, as she threatened to dethrone the rest of players and reclaim her throne. However, her performances, apart from Bali International tournament, were below par and didn’t help her
achieve her goal.
Petkovic’s coach, Dave Taylor, is famous for his truthful opinion on all players and he was clear that his student will definitely clinch her first Grand Slam title in 2012. She has a lot of talent and the toughness of her
mind is working well in her favour. She will further climb up the ranks and will prove to be a greatest threat to all her competitors.
New season is around the corner and everyone is fired up to perform well and accomplish their new year’s resolutions. There is no doubt that all players are competitive but it just takes a bit of luck, along with non-stop
practice, for the players to prove themselves superior to others. It will be interesting to see who is the one that blossoms herself in 2012 and prove the toughest competitor of all.
