Andrea Petkovic storms past Monica Niculescu into title match – China Open 2011
German Andrea Petkovic came head-to-head with Romanian, Monica Niculescu, in the semi-final of China Open tournament on Saturday, October 7th in Beijing. The 100% winning record of Niculescu against Petkovic was broken
today when Petkovic hammered the Romanian in straight-sets.
Niculescu has previously won twice from Petkovic but this time Petkovic gave no chance to the Romanian international. She stormed into the finals with the easiest of the victories in straight-sets, winning 6-2, 6-0 in just an hour.
The score line clearly showed the level of domination by German on the courts. Petkovic came with a clear mind and had no pressure of their previous meeting results. Niculescu, on the other hand, was simply abysmal with her game
play. Most of the points ended in unforced errors made by the Romanian who couldn’t settle into the atmosphere.
Although, Petkovic ranks higher than Niculescu, crowd was still expecting a close contest considering their previous results but they were totally disappointed. First set ended with Petkovic managing to win 4 out of allotted 5
break points and finishing it off with a massive 62% winning points percentage.
Trailing with one set, Niculescu couldn’t recover and the German made sure she gave no chance either. She thumped her all over the place and Romanian could just see the balls sail past her and she could nothing about that. It was
a very half-hearted performance by the Romanian who seemed to have lost faith in her game and failed to make a mark in the match.
Niculescu failed to break her opponent even once or save any break point. Petkovic, on the other hand, was totally on top her game winning 74% of the total points in the second-set. It was a pretty tame performance by Niculescu
as she merely rolled over for the German allowing her to cruise into the title match.
Petkovic will now face eleventh seeded, Agnieszka Radwanska in the title match of the event. Radwanska moved on ahead after her own easy victory against Italian Flavia Pennetta.
