Andreas Beck ousts Maxime Authom in final four – Loughborough Challenger 2011
Andreas Beck (Germany) played against Maxime Authom (Belgium) in the second round competition of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger. Beck won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The 25-year old German scored five aces in the first without conceding any double faults. He was playing with maturity, as his shots reflected his decent stance on the court. The 24-year old Authom scored only two aces and did
concede a double fault once in the set. He had a 50% first serve winning ratio, lower than Beck’s 64% ratio.
When talking about the points won on first serve, Authom won 82% points and had a nice run with the racquet as compared to Beck, who won 78% points. But with second serves, the Belgian could only win 36% points while the German
won 60% points with his second serve.
Authom was winning his games but could not get past his third game as Beck widened the lead and won the first set 6-3.
As the second set went underway, Authom came with force as he delivered eight aces. He was looking to tie the match. He was showing his aggressive side and conceded double faults twice in the set, giving valuable extra points to
Beck.
Both players had a 69% first serve winning ratio and stood on equal grounds with the points they won with their first serves. Beck won 78% points with his first serve and Authom won 70% points.
The German maintained the points he got with his serves as he won 75% points with his second serve but the Belgian dropped his score as he could win only 33% points from his second serve. Authom was playing considerably well in
the second set as compared to his run in the first.
He could have won the second set but he was unable to break any of Beck’s serves. This was mainly because of Authom’s inexperienced form. He has only won seven matches in the ATP circuit and lost eight.
On the other hand, Beck has a win/loss ratio of 132/83 in the ATP division, which helped him play well against the Belgian and maintain a sufficient lead in both the sets.
The 233rd ranked Authom was able to clinch a narrow win in his first round match against Radu Albot (Moldova), 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. In the second round match, however, Authom could not be lucky as Beck proved to be a dominating
competitor.
Beck, on the other hand, defeated Joshua Goodall (Great Britain) in his first round match in straight set, 6-3, 6-4. The German brought his competitive form in the second round match as well when he thrashed the Belgian in straight
sets to enter the quarterfinals of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger.
