Andreas Beck overwhelms Bobby Reynolds to enter the semis – ATP Challenger Tour Finals 2011
Sixth seeded in the tournament draw, Germany’s Andreas Beck carried on his dream run at the season ending grand event, the ATP (Association of Tennis professionals) Challenger Tour Finals, defeating the eighth seeded American opponent,
Bobby Reynolds, on Friday night.
The 25-year-old German took one hour and thirty three minutes to wrap up victory in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to confirm his place among the final four in the mega event. Beck topped the Green Group, winning all the three Round
Robin matches in assertive manner to earn a semi-final berth at the inaugural ATP Challenger Tour Finals.
Beck took off his campaign at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, by taking down the third seed Martin Klizan first up in the Round Robin. The sixth seed German stunned everyone on day two of the event when he outplayed
the top seed wildcard, Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil, in his second encounter of the tournament. Beck’s third consecutive victory over Reynolds put him on top of the Green Group with 3-0 record and a berth in the semi-finals of the prestigious event.
Reynolds recovered from the early hiccup in the tournament by defeating the third seed Martin Klizan in the second Round Robin clash but utterly failed to put up the similar performance on Friday night against Beck. The American
registered merely one break point conversion in the entire matchup, while suffering three out of 11 cracking ones from the belligerent German opponent to finish on the losing side in the end.
The German’s 75 per cent precise serve earned him 35 out of 48 first serve points in the matchup, while his opponent closely followed him with 31 points. Beck was off to a flyer in the opening set, launching his onslaught upon
Reynolds right up to rocket away to 5-0 lead in no time. The eighth seeded American broke his momentum in the seventh game but couldn’t avoid losing the first set at 3-6. One break point conversion in the 11th game of the following set proved sufficient
for Beck to close out victory at 7-5, confirming a spot in the semis.
Beck will take on his fellow compatriot, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, in the semi-final encounter to fight for a title shot in the final of the mega event. Stebe improved his record to 2-1 on Friday night, when he surprised the best player
on the ATP Challenger Tour this season, the second seed Rui Machado of Portugal, in the final Round Robin matchup.
