Andreas Beck slashes away Walter Trusendi in the 2nd round – Tennislife Cup 2011
German Andreas Beck dumped local qualifier Walter Trusendi in straight sets at the Tennislife Cup 2011, an ATP Challenger Tour event held from 24th September to 2nd October at the Greenpark Posillipo in Napoli,
Italy. He registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the 26-year-old Italian to book a last eight spot on Thursday.
Ranked 132nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Beck took almost two hours to triumph over the qualifier, ranked 198 spots below him, on their first duel. He has now advanced into the quarter-finals
of this €42,500 event.
The Weingarten native, Beck took the first blood in the third game to subsequently go 3-1 up. Despite levelling the scores in the sixth game, he broke the Italian’s serve again in the proceeding game and then held remaining serves
to clinch the opener with a 6-4 success. He clobbered a lower first serve share of 61 percent as compared to Trusendi’s 71 percent and registered a plausible 65 percent win on it. Beck saved two out of three breakpoints faced but cashed in on both breakpoint
opportunities to his advantage to win comfortably.
Beck kept momentum rolling into the final set and quickly swiped in entire serves without facing any breakpoint. He founded eight breakpoint chances but converted one to his advantage in the seventh game. This only conversion led
him clinched the set with a similar 6-4 score line. He manipulated a lower first serve share of 56 percent as compared to his rival’s 68 percent but registered a perfect win on it.
He will next face a local wild card enterer Gianluca Naso who stunned sixth seeded Portuguese Frederico Gil in brutal three sets to reach this spot.
Leonardo Mayer will be joining the German in the final eight. He upset seventh seeded French Stephane Robert in straight sets on their second face-to-face. The Argentinean took one hour and fifteen minutes to advance in this event.
World number 117, Mayer took an early break in the third game. Despite losing his edge in the very next game, he broke again in the fifth game and then kept remaining serves to seal the opening set with a 6-4 score line.
The Argentinean carried his winning ways into the final set. He got the desiderated break in the opening game and after bagging in entire serves, he broke the Frenchman’s serve again in the ninth game to win the set with a 6-3
victory.
