The full-back has decided to hang his boots citing personal reasons and has revealed that he will return in a coaching role in the future.
The defender announced his retirement via his blog and insisted that he has chose not to extend his playing career despite offers from abroad. He added that it was in the best interest of his family that he did not travel to another
country to prolong his career for a short period of time.
The former German international stated that it was not an easy decision to make and claimed that he had to ponder over the issue for a long time to come to a conclusion. He added that he has played at the highest level for 12 years
with some of the best club, but believes that the time has come to end his journey.
Hinkel thanked all the clubs he has played for and all his fans for supporting him through thick and thin. He stated that he will always live the memories throughout his life.
“I decided to end my career as football pro. It was not a snap decision, but a step that has been planned for some time. I know many may think that 30 is no age to quit. I played football at a very high level for 12 years - 12
wonderful intensive years with amazing experiences, first class clubs and overwhelming supporters,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

“Of course, I had opportunities to carry on. But together with my family I decided that this would not have been the right thing for us anymore. Right now I'm working to get a coaching licence,” he concluded.
