Andreas Seppi crushes Diego Junqueira to reach quarterfinals – Studena Croatia Open 2011
Andreas Seppi looked in fabulous form in the second round play as he crushed the Argentine challenge, Deigo Junqueira 7-5, 6-1 to reach the last eight at 2011 ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag.
Looking in aggressive mood, Seppi made a few errors early on the in the match but in the second set he raised the level of his game to complete his straight sets victory in a match that lasted for one hour and 28 minutes.
Seeded seventh at the Association of Tennis Professionals tournament, Seppi looked to attack his opponent right from the start of the match. Although he had problems timing his big forehand winners early on, he managed to lift
his game when it was needed.
After both players broke each other once, the opening set entered a very exciting phase with the game score tied at 3-3. Seppi converted his second break chance with a blistering serve ace to take a tricky 6-5 lead in the set.
Dashing an astonishing backhand winner down the line on his serve, the Italian pocketed the opener to take the set score lead 1-0.
Looking very confident, Seppi started the second set on a positive note as well as he broke the Argentine rival in the very first game to take complete control of the situation. He then continued to play his natural game with freedom
and broke his opponent for the second time in the set to complete his straight sets victory.
Junqueira made a solid start to the match but he couldn’t handle the pressure and hence paid the price. He struggled to execute his shots under pressure and let Seppi dictate terms. Ranked 101st in the ATP rankings,
Junqueira was disappointed with his effort and aimed for a strong return to the ATP arena.
Seppi served with control and precision and hit an incredible 51 per cent first serve in the match. He dominated the rallies with his impressive footwork. Saving five out of six break points, he displayed amazing defensive skills
on the clay courts of Umag
Seppi has been in average form since the year 2011 has started. With thirteen wins in his last twenty seven appearances on the tour, there is certainly room for improvement for him. Having won his first ATP title earlier this year,
he will be hoping to maintain his incredible run. To achieve similar results in his upcoming matches at the tournament, the Italian must seek consistency.
