Andreas Seppi ousts Igor Sijsling to enter quarters – Kremlin Cup 2012
Second seed, Andreas Seppi from Italy, tumbled the Dutch contender, Igor Sijsling, in straight sets at the Kremlin Cup by Bank of Moscow 2012 on Thursday. He nudged up a 7-5, 6-2 victory against the world number 77 to power into the quarter-finals at this
indoor hard court event held in Moscow, Russia.
The Italian seed displayed brilliant skills to outrun Sijsling in their first tour-level encounter. After earning the fame in one hour and seven minutes, Seppi took lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against
the 25-year-old and also booked a place in the final eight at the Olympic Stadium.
"The first match is always difficult; I was down a break in the first set," said the jubilant Italian in a courtside interview after conquering Sijsling. "After the first set I started to play more aggressively, having got used to the court."
Seppi made a drastic entry at this ATP World Tour 250 Series event taking place from 13th to 21st October. He suffered the first blow in the second game and fell at 0-3. However, the Italian not only recovered in the seventh game but
got the breakthrough in the second last game, eventually sealing the opener by winning seven games to five.
Ranked 25th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Seppi perfected his ways in the following set. After Sijsling plucked his serve in the third game, the Italian unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled off five games in a
row. He was never challenged with any breakpoint and cashed both break chances to prevail.
Seppi will face off eighth seeded Tatsuma Ito from Japan. The seeded Japanese battled past the local qualifier, Konstantin Kravchuk, in a three-set thriller to progress.
The top seed, Alexandr Dolgopolov, face a bitter fortune later that day. He suffered a 3-6, 7-5, 6-7(6) loss against the French qualifier, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, in two hours and 23 minutes. The Ukrainian number one struck 11 aces but dusted away only five
out of seven breakpoints he came across. He also availed only two out of eight break chances and exited the tournament from his opening round.
