Andreas Seppi outguns Vincent Millot in the second round – Moselle Open 2012
World number 28, Andreas Seppi, prevailed over the local challenger, Vincent Millot, in the second round of the Moselle Open, held at the hard courts of Metz, France. The local challenger received a straight
sets loss 2-6, 1-6 in nearly one hour, on the eve of Thursday.
The right-hander Italian senior started the opener with his high-paced serves and broke his rival’s serve in the third game. He progressed without facing any resistance in the set and maintained his dominance.
Although Millot struggled hard, his ground strokes seemed insignificant in front of the higher ranked Italian professional. Towards the end, Seppi broke his rival’s serve and completely shattered his confidence and concluded the opener with his remarkable
score of 6-2.
Currently, world number 222, the Frenchman displayed an average initial serve precision of 43 percent. However, his pace declined down as he double faulted five times with seven of 13 points. The Italian veteran
marked 64 percent initial serve precision and bagged away 12 of 16 first and six of nine second delivery points. He concluded the set by capitalizing two of five serve breaks, where Millot could not attain any.
In the next set, the challenges become an easier deal for the fifth seeded, Seppi. His confidence boosted when he busted his rival’s initial serve and secured a lead by 2-love. As the game gained momentum, the
26-year-old slowly secured his only point in the third game. The Italian professional took note of his opponent’s move and broke his serve in the fifth game. From that point onward, he clinched all the games in a series and stamped a 6-1 win.
The 28-year-old Italian had reasonable initial serve accuracy with 10 of 12 first and five of eight second delivery points. On the other hand, the right-hander local participant maintained 59 percent initial
serve accuracy at his home ground. He secured eight of 13 points and from the three break points presented, he unfortunately secured none.
In the next round, Seppi will face a tough encounter against the fourth seeded, Florian Mayer. The German challenger defeated James Blake 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 in the previous round.
