Andreas Seppi rallies past Nicolas Almagro in round two – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
Upsetting the tour, Andreas Seppi, Italian world No.46, mesmerized his higher ranked 2nd round challenger of the BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Spanish world no.11, Nicolas Almagro, beating him down 6-3, 7-5, in just an hour
and 21 minutes of Indoor hard court match at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Wednesday, 9th of November.
Prior to this fixture, the two met last year at Wimbledon in the opening round of the Grand Slam and even then Seppi decimated the higher ranked Spaniard in straight sets. Anyhow, with the two walking down the court, continued
with warm up
Seppi ignited the fixture serving out the first game of the match and rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. Almagro, World No.11, followed up the lower ranked Italian to even up the scores at 1-1. Although the two had a huge disparity
in ranking, Spaniard had a tough opponent to deal with.
Continuing with game three, the Italian served out his second serve of the set and led the scores, 2-1. World No.11 served next, however, went down stumbling as Seppi broke the higher ranked rival to lead the set, 3-1. Almagro
did cover up as he broke back right away, yet could not hold on to his serve and broke down again in game six.
Leading the set 4-2, the 27-year-old Italian continued to dominate the set bagging game seven and leading 5-2. With just one more set left to close the set, Seppi served out one out of the last two games to finish off winning 6-3,
and onto set two.
Almagro, unable to make an early impact took his chance in the second set, however, was of no good. Serving out the set starter, Spaniard led the score card, 1-0, followed by the Italian firing up an equalizer, 1-1. The two carried
on with wining games of respective serves and levelled up again at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before the set flared up.
Breaking each other one after the other, the two once again evened up at 4-4, and then on 5-5 possible moving on to a tiebreaker. As Seppi served out game ten to level up the scores at 5-5, the Italian broke the higher ranked Spaniard,
double breakpoint winner, and thrashed the higher ranked rival in game twelve, 7-5, to finish off the set and the match, with a marvellous double match point winner.
Overpowering the higher ranked Spaniard in straight sets, the 27-year-old makes his way into the third round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event as he battles out the quarter-final spot against the sixth seed, Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga.
