Andreas Seppi stuns Florian Mayer in the quarter-finals – Moselle Open 2012 
World number 25, Florian Mayer received a straight sets upset, 5-7, 2-6 at the hands of Italian, Andreas Seppi in the quarter-finals of the Moselle Open held at the hard courts of France. Seppi displayed his
remarkable game plan and summed up his win in one hour on Friday.
The fifth seeded, Seppi adopted a serious approach ever since he stepped on the hard courts. However, the German professional squared down the score line in the fourth game to 2-all. The Italian took note of
the momentum and stamped his lead by breaking his rival’s serve in the fifth game. Although, Mayer responded his challenger by breaking his serve in the eighth game, the score line was evened out to 5-5 in the very next game. The Italian challenger nudged
forward and secured the last two games, closing the opener with a 7-5 score.
The right-hander German participant displayed 54 percent initial serve accuracy, converting 12 of 19 first and nine of 16 second serve points. On the other hand, Seppi had 63 percent initial serve precision.
He had a remarkable conversion rate, as he converted 18 of 19 first but two of 11 second delivery points.
Ranked 28th in South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Seppi completely shattered his rival’s serves by his former game plan. Taking advantage of the situation, he clinched the
initial three games and marked his 3-love lead. He advanced without facing any difficulty and continued to pocket away all the games without any delay. He closed the set by busting Mayer’s serve in the last game and marking a 6-2 win.
The fourth seeded German participant had a higher first serve presentation of 74 percent, snatching eight of 14 first and two of five delivery points. His Italian contender had an average initial serve presentation
of 67 percent. Like before, he secured all the 12 first serve points bestowed on him, capitalizing two of three serve breaks presented to him.
The two players contested against one another for the third time and Seppi marked his 2-1 lead in the head-to-head series. In the next round the Italian professional will battle against the seventh seeded, Gael
Monfils.
