Andreas Seppi trounces Gilles Muller in the quarters – Serbia Open 2012
Second seed, Andreas Seppi of Italy, blasted past the Luxembourgian star, Gilles Muller, in straight sets at the Serbia Open 2012 on Friday, May 4th. He registered a 6-4, 6-3 success against the world number 62 to book a place in the last four at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) clay court event taking place in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Italian showed tremendous skills to overpower Muller at the SRPC Milan Gale Muskatirovic in their third meeting. Seppi required one hour and eight minutes to not only achieve this goal and but also extended his lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series by 3-0 against his Luxembourgian rival.
Seppi, ranked 46th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, assertively entered the opening set and held his serve to tie the scores at 1-1. The Italian then continued hitting forehands and backhands, eventually sliding his remaining serves after blocking the lone breakpoint he faced. Seppi got the breakthrough in the seventh game and clinched the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The 28-year-old Italian perfected his ways in the follow-up set and swiftly pocketed his entire serves without facing any barrier. He earned the critical break in the opening game and later cashed in another break chance in the last game to bag the set with a 6-3 win.
All in all, Seppi overcame 10 aces the Luxembourgian spilled and manifested a better first serve share of 75 per cent as compared to his opponent’s 63 per cent. He also superbly availed 31 out of 39 points on it and capitalised on three out of five break chances to dominate.
Seppi will next confront fourth seeded David Nalbandian who stomped over the Brazilian challenger, Joao Souza, in straight sets to set-up this meeting. The Argentinean seed lost his serve once but capitalised on four out of five break chances to manipulate a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The French rising star, Benoit Paire, bounced back to accompany Seppi in the semi-finals. He lost the opener with a bagel but got in action after that, eventually upsetting third seeded Jarkko Nieminen in one hour and 38 minutes.
