Andreas Seppi trounces Ivan Dodig in second round – Serbia Open 2012
Second seed, Andreas Seppi, dumped the Croatian star, Ivan Dodig, in straight sets at the Serbia Open 2012 on Wednesday. He joggled up a 6-4, 6-2 victory against the Bosnia and Herzegovina-born Dodig to reach the quarter-finals at this ATP (Association of
Tennis Professionals) clay court event taking place in Belgrade, Serbia.
The seeded Italian got the better of Dodig, ranked 74th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, in their second meeting. After earning this success in one hour and 38 minutes, Seppi not only improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the FedEx
ATP Head 2 Head series against the Croat but also advanced into the last eight.
The world number 46 high-spiritedly entered the SRPC Milan Gale Muskatirovic and drew the first blood in the third game to take the upper hand at 2-1. Apart from losing his serve in the very next game, he held his nerves and availed another break opportunity
in the ninth game to seal the opener by winning six games to four.
Seppi kept momentum running into the second set and earned the critical break in the opening game to jump to a 2-0 lead. He broke Dodig’s serve again and leaped to a 4-1 lead. Despite losing his serve in the following game, the Italian pocketed the last
two games and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
All in all, the 28-year-old capitalised fully on the six double faults his Croatian rival committed. He clobbered an amazing first serve share of 66 per cent as compared to Dodig’s 56 per cent and availed 26 out of 44 points on it.
Next in queue for Seppi is the eighth seed, Gilles Muller, who stomped over the Argentinean qualifier, Eduardo Schwank, in straight sets to set-up this battle. The Luxembourgian star lost his serve once but cashed in both break chances to register a 6-3,
7-6(0) success.
Brazil’s Joao Souza will move along Seppi towards the last eight. He earned a 4-2 retirement victory against the local wild card entrant, Dusan Lajovic, in 31 minutes. The Brazilian lost his opening serve but broke Lajovic’s serve twice to go 4-2 up.
