Andreas Seppi wins against Lukasz Kubot in the first round– Qatar Open 2012
Italy’s Andreas Seppi registered a straight sets victory over the Pole competitor, Lukasz Kubot, in the first round of ExxonMobil Qatar Open, outplaying his opponent at 6-2, 6-3. It was Seppi’s first victory in the 2012 ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) season, earning him a spot in the round of 16 of the World Tour 250-level tournament.
The two contestants started off the match with an equal pace, not giving any room to their opponent to score points. Seppi’s lack of concentration in the game cost him two double faults in the opener but both players showed
consistency in their first serves,as Seppi had a 61% first serve winning ratio and Kubot had a 62% rate
Although the first serve winning ratio was equal, Seppi had an upper hand with a better service game, winning 79 per cent points from first serve and 78 per cent points from his second serve. On the other hand, Kubot won
69 per cent points from his first serve and could have done better but he won only 30 per cent points from his second serve. The Polish player may have narrowed down the lead but his inconsistent serve games kept him lagging behind his opponent.
After winning two games in the first set, Kubot was unable to win any more games. Seppi broke into a decisive lead in the match, as he claimed the opening set at 6-2. Seppi also proved to be a better player, as he saved all
breakpoints, giving him leverage into the first set. Kubot was not that much successful and he saved two out of the four breakpoints he faced.
With the second set in progress, Seppi kept his lead in the match and fired four aces to claim some un-fought points. Kubot banged in two aces but at the expense of four double faults. His unforced errors in the set led him
down in the contest, giving ample opportunities to his opponent to strike assertive winners on regularity.
Seppi’s service games gave him a 65 per cent first serve winning ratio while Kubot could only manage to secure 52 per cent. Seppi, ranked at 38th place in the world, won 80 per cent points from his first serve
while Kubot could only score 63 per cent points. Kubot was again unsuccessful in winning games in the second set as Seppi kept his pressure. He won the second set 6-3, hence winning the first round match to cruise into the tournament.
