Andreas Vazaios captures Boys 100m butterfly gold – European Junior Swimming Championships
Andreas Vazaios of Greece captured gold medal of the Boys 100m butterfly on concluding day of the 2012 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, July 8.
Vazaios demonstrated his immaculate efforts in the 100m discipline and shattered hopes of his opponents who were eyeing the title of the event.
With his commendable speed and determination, he succeeded in edging out his closest swimmer over the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 53.43 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Michal Poprawa of Poland, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and proved his eligibility for silver medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 53.48 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Albert Puig Garrich of Spain, who remained just a stroke behind and secured the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 53.77 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Francesco Giordano of Italy, who remained 0.06 seconds behind and settled on the wall with an effort of 53.83 seconds.
The Italian player was trailed by Tom Kremer of Israel, who remained 0.17 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 54.00 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the 100m event was obtained by Philip Luecker of Germany, who stayed just an inch slower from improving his position. Luecker stayed only 0.03 seconds slower from his former finisher and submitted a time of 54.03 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Mateusz Andrzejczak of Poland, who remained only 0.07 seconds apart and clocked an effort 54.10 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Andrey Tambovskiy of Russia, who stayed half body length slower from his foregoing finisher. Tambovskiy failed to surpass any of his challengers in the event as he stayed 0.48 seconds behind and completed his
swim with the timing of 54.58 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Vazaios was delighted with his accomplishment on final day of the championship and said that he will work hard to make a significant improvement in his pace and achieve the same at upcoming events.
