Andrei Arlovski is out of the K-1 Grand Prix
The message that Andrei 'The Pitbull' Arlovski delivered was short and to the point. He confirmed that he was not participating in the K-1 on October 2nd.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion posted the message on his twitter page with no further explanation. K-1 has also been silent on why Arlovski pulled out of
the fight.
Arlovski, with an MMA record of 15-8, was scheduled to fight Raul Catinas (12-3) at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Seoul Final 16 event. There has been no word on whether or not a replacement
will be found for Catinas.
There are two rumours making the rounds in regard to Arlovski and K-1. The first is that K-1 is having financial difficulties, and that has made it very difficult for them to bring in
and pay big name talent. The second rumour is that Arlovski has pulled out due to injury-Headkicklegend.com reported that the Belarusian fighter sustained a broken nose in training.
Prior to his scheduled K-1 fight, Arlovski was on a three fight-losing streak. The most notable being a one-punch knockout sustained at the hands of
Fedor Emelianenko back in January of 2009.
Arlovski won the interim UFC heavyweight title in February 2005 when he defeated Tim Sylvia by submission in 46 seconds using an Achilles lock. The heavyweight champion at the time, Frank
Mir, was unable to compete after a serious motorcycle accident and the UFC elected to hold a fight for an interim champion while Mir was out.
In October 2005, the interim tag was removed from Arlovski’s championship status and he was named undisputed heavyweight champion. He lost the title to Sylvia in April 2006 due to technical
knockout in the first round.
