The veteran left winger of Arsenal has acknowledged that his current form is not very impressive and held his advancing age as the main reason behind his terrible recent form.
The 29-year-old Russian has not been at his very best for the Gunners in the 2010-11 season and he told the media that he simply ran out of ideas when he is in possession during the match.
Arshavin said, “Now when I get the ball, I am afraid of taking the initiative. When such thoughts appear, your final decision, as a rule, turns out to be wrong. And you waste a lot of opportunities. That was happening to me in recent matches.”
The Russian skipper has recently lost his first team place at Arsenal and his last start in the Barclays Premier League was against Manchester United in December 2010.
Arshavin claimed he would need to train hard and play more games in order to get his best form back. He added that a few good games would surely boost his confidence, and his decision-making power would definitely improve.
However, Arshavin admitted that his increasing age is one of the reasons for his lack of the pace in the season and the Russian hailed the performance of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, who now play at his place in Arsenal.
The Russian added, “I do not have enough acceleration. From the very start of this season I felt I'm fast enough only in separate episodes. The reason? I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting old. Currently the boys who play in my position, Samir Nasri and
Theo Walcott, look very good. They're really in good shape and that's why they're playing.”
Arshavin also claimed that Arsenal coaches are making him do extra and special exercises during the training sessions in order to retain his acceleration and pace.
Despite having a bad season, Arshavin is one of the few Arsenal players who have already played more than 30 matches for the Gunners. The Russian has scored 8 times and assisted 14 goals in all competitions in the season.
