Philippine’s Andrei Babad and Rjay Ormilla have entered into the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Goal Pilipinas - Bingo Bonanza, in Philippines, on Tuesday, May 31.
In the first round of the event, Andrei defeated Sonny Boy Montilla in a three-set fight of 70 minutes, whereas, Rjay managed to win against Patricque Magnaye in a rubber-set match, which took 55 minutes of a wonderful fight from both players.
Both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck in the first game by playing aggressively. There was an exchange of long rallies between the two shuttlers, who were not missing any chance of scoring points against each other. Sonny remained lucky in the end, as he won the set by a narrow difference of 22-20, in 27 minutes.
In the second set, Andrei bounced back in the match by playing flawless badminton. He finished the set by a surprising margin of 21-9, in just 18 minutes.
In the final set, Andrei continued his impressive play against Sonny, who made many mistakes in the game. Andrei clinched the final game with a 21-17 score, in 25 minutes. The concluding result was 20-22, 21-9 and 21-17.
In the other Men’s Singles contest, Rjay and Patricque remained toe-to-toe throughout the match. In the first game, Rjay faced no difficulty in setting up a one-set lead against his opponent by a superb margin of 21-11, in just 14 minutes.
Patricque made a superb comeback in the second set, where he displayed an outstanding game. Rjay failed to dominate the rallies in this set against Patricque, who left no stone unturned and levelled the match by winning the set with a 21-18 margin, in 22 minutes.
The final set was quite close until the score reached at 15-15. Rjay became quick at this stage and executed many powerful smashes in a row to put pressure on his opponent. His strategy was successful in the end, as he beat Patricque in 19 minutes, with a 21-17 score on the board. The score of this 55-minute interesting battle was 21-11, 18-21 and 21-17.
