Andrelton Simmons is fast heading toward complete recovery from broken bone - MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves’ shortstop Andrelton Simmons is rehabilitating expeditiously, according to the reports. He is out from the season since breaking his bone in the right hand. Doctor namely Gary Lourie who checked him has given positive signals about his
recovery.
The injury by Simmons was embarrassing for the Braves, because his contribution as a hitter was commendable in the season. He hit .296 with an equally praiseworthy on-base-percentage of .336 before suffering the injury.
Therefore, his absence meant that the Braves' offence will be without an important hitter who is consistent on the plate.
Apart from being a quality hitter, Simmons held an important shortstop position for the Braves, which made the club worry about finding an appropriate replacement in his absence.
It was for the same reason that after the Braves had little options left, they resorted to the trade. Acquiring the shortstop Paul Janish from the Cincinnati Reds in a deal, Atlanta took this stop-gap measure.
As far as Janish's performance is concerned, defensively he has done a reasonably better job so far. However, he has failed to become a reliable replacement with regard to offensive contributions.
As he has posted a dismal batting average, the Braves will be asking for more support from him in the line-up.
Meanwhile, getting Simmons recovered at the earliest is an ideal situation for the Braves. With the positive signals coming off regarding his rehabilitation, Atlanta will be pleased now.
Simmons shares his feelings about the progress with regard to the broken bone. As the doctor has instructed him to stay away from playing for one week, he is excited to be resuming play soon.
“I think they don’t want me to do it,” Simmons said. “I’m telling you, I did my best to not do too much. I’m getting to my limit where I’m about to take (the cast) off myself …It’s annoying. But it’s good now.”
Furthermore, the 22-year-old shortstop comments on the advice that he received from the doctor.
“I was hoping for no cast at all,” said Simmons. “But the doctor said we need one more week to make sure it gets calcified and stuff.”
As Simmons makes big strides toward recovery, it can be expected that soon he will be playing rehab games.
