Andrelton Simmons on disabled list, out for one month due to broken finger - MLB News
The National League Rookie of the Month for June, Andrelton Simmons, finds his little finger broken on Sunday. The Atlanta Braves’ physician Gary Lourie determined his injury and reported that he will not be able to play for some time now.
Immediately afterwards, Simmons was put on 15-day disabled list.
The Braves’ General Manager Frank Wren and manager Fredi Gonzalez are in consultation with each other on the matter of announcing a possible replacement.
As per the reports, exact timeline of his comeback cannot be confirmed until the end of one month. There is a possibility that he may take longer than one month for return, if the rehab process is not expeditious.
Meanwhile, the management is reviewing various options to fill the vacant spot at short-stop. They are taking scouts on board and seeking their input regarding appropriate replacements. In case, none of the Minor Leaguers steals their attention, they will
be sticking to Tyler Pastornicky, who played earlier in the season as a short-stop for the Braves.
Meanwhile, Simmons will be disheartened on getting injured at a time when he was all set to display his talent at the Major League level.
Though, he had made the most of the opportunity of being named for the Major League and lifted the Braves’ offence in number of games, he will be disappointed to have not lasted enough in the season.
Furthermore, GM Wren spoke about the process of announcing name of the player who will be manning short-stop position from now onward. He said, they are in contact with their Minor League staff and will soon reveal name of a replacement.
"Fredi and I spoke this afternoon and we've started the process by talking with our scouts and will continue discussions with our minor league staff over the next few days to determine their thoughts on who would be the best fit for our club," Wren stated.
Braves will be resuming the race on Friday after the All-Star break. On return, their target will be to get as close as possible to the Washington Nationals in terms of number of wins.
In this connection, one will be observing whether the absence of Simmons will affect the performance of their offence or not.
