Andreozzi/ Valarezo duel past Decoud/ Gomez in 1st round - Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Wildcard entrants Guido Andreozzi and Walter Valarezo battled past unseeded pair of Sebastian Decoud with Juan Sebastian Gomez in the doubles first round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
On the 21st of November 2011, the two squads battled swords on outdoor clay courts of the Guayaquil Tenis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After clashing with each other for one hour and thirty nine minutes, Argentinean Andreozzi with Ecuadorian Valarezo ousted the Argentinean and Columbian pair by bouncing back from a set down to secure 6-7(2), 7-5, 10-5.
Commencing the first round of the match was Andreozzi/ Valarezo and both the squads traded in breaks for the first two games and the score had progressed to 1-1. In the following two games the crews then matched a blow for a blow and the score kept tied at two games each.
At the end of the sixth game, each team had bagged three games each as neither team wanted the other to take a lead and the last time the score had levelled out at five games each was at the end of the tenth game.
The set was finally pushed into a tiebreaker as the crews matched an eye for an eye and both bartered in breaks during the eleventh and the twelfth game. The cat and mouse chase came to an end in the tiebreaker.
Both the squads tied the score at two points each and from there onwards the wildcard entrants were unable to hold their own. Mean while, Decoud/ Gomez rushed past their adversaries to clog the tiebreaker at 7-2 to go one up in the match.
The toe-to-toe leg again initiated in the second set and once more the players matched an eye for an eye. During the initial two games of the second set both players traded in breaks and soon after, they held their serves to tie the score for the last time at five games each.
It was in the eleventh game that Decoud/ Gomez’s forehand went wayward and they endorsed a crucial break to their opponents. Mean while, Andreozzi/ Valarezo benefitted from the break and then held their serves to reel away with the second set.
At the end of the second round both the teams had bagged a set each and opening the decisive round was Decoud/ Gomez’s. Although the cat and mouse chase was once again initiated. This time Andreozzi/ Valarezo brought on their A-game and were in no mood for another lengthy goose chase.
With a series of breaks and holds the wildcard entrants thrashed their adversaries and clinched the super tiebreaker at 10-5. In doing so; they reserved a spot in the second round where they will be facing either Ecuadorian wildcard entrants Júlio César Campozano and Roberto Quiroz or fourth seeded American team of Maciek Sykut with Dennis Zivkovic.
