Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano pleased with Barcelona win over Copenhagen
Barcelona continued their UEFA Champions League campaign in winning form when they beat Danish champions Copenhagen, and while the Spanish outfit were not playing at their best, Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano were pleased with the victory.
The difference-maker was reigning FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi, who netted in each half — the first being a sensational 20-yard effort and the second a bundled-in ball — to give the La Liga champions a 2-0 victory. However, the scoreline could
have been more emphatic were it not for a spate of missed opportunities.
Barca hit the woodwork twice and had two goals disallowed, while Copenhagen almost pulled themselves back into the match on a couple of occasions with near-misses.
Despite the close call, Iniesta, who set up Messi’s first goal, told reporters that he was satisfied with the victory.
'We played well'
“All matches are difficult, but I felt we played well. Pep has told us to have peace of mind in front of goal, and the goals will eventually come. It is important that we keep playing like this and winning,” the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner said, before adding
that his physical condition was improving. “Personally, I’m improving every day and every time I feel better.”
Meanwhile, Mascherano, who moved to Barcelona from Liverpool in the summer, was pleased with the number of scoring opportunities his side created.
He said that: “They were difficult opponents, and it was a very important victory to take the lead. The positive thing is that we created many chances, and the time will come when we can realise them. I give more importance to the fact that we have edged
closer to qualification.”
Barcelona are now at the top of the group with seven points after the first three fixtures. Copenhagen are second with six, Rubin Kazan third with two and Panathanaikos last with one.
