Andres Iniesta and the year 2010 (Part 1)
The Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta has been a crucial part of Barcelona since he joined them back a few years ago. Like most of the Catalan players playing for the Spanish Champions, Andres Iniesta is also a youth product of
the Spanish club and he came from their academy known to be La Masia.
Iniesta is known to be a player who never gives up. The Spaniard has proven it time and again and who can forget his “memorable” goal against Chelsea during the UEFA Champions League semi final. Barcelona were struggling to find
a goal with a man down when the Spanish midfielder managed to receive a pass from Lionel Messi and shot the ball into the net to save his team from embarrassment as they drew 1-1 while being away from home at the Stamford Bridge, the home of the English side
Chelsea.
Just like that, Andres Iniesta has been extraordinary during the year 2010 and to sum it all up, let’s look at his career during this year:
1st January: Andres Iniesta was given a medical clear up as he picked up an injury during a FIFA Club World Cup match on December 16th 2009.
The Spaniard was mostly out of action throughout the previous year because of his fitness issues and while playing a final match in the FIFA Club World Cup, the Spanish midfielder was ruled out for a few months. On 1st of January, he finally made
his return to the training ground and he was ready to serve his team in the midfield.
19th January: This date was very special for Andres Iniesta; the Spaniard managed to impress many clubs and players as he managed to set a new record.
On 19th January, Iniesta became the only player of the team that never lost a game for 17 months straight with him being in the team. Meaning, whenever Iniesta was a part of Barcelona, the team never lost a single game and Andres Iniesta was the
only one who held this record.
6th February: At such a young age, 25, Andres Iniesta appeared in his 200th
league game and simply showed that he was a regular player for Barcelona. The midfielder became an extraordinary part of the Barcelona team and provided the team with the help that they required. Iniesta’s “style of play” can be easily summed up by stating
that he is a player between the class of Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez. You might see him dribbling past a few defenders and you might also see him scoring goals but he will never overdo it and always pass the ball onto his teammate to help his side keep
control of the game by keeping possession – just the way his coach Josep Guardiola likes it.
20th February:
If summed up in Andres Iniesta’s words, it would be called “A day of the centuries”; on this date, Andres Iniesta managed to score his first goal of the season. The Spaniard was playing his 300th game for the club as they won over Racing
for the 400th time in the history of the game.
