Andres Iniesta and the year 2010 (Part 2)
27th March: Andres Iniesta showed the Barcelona fans that no matter how great a player he is, but he just might have issues with his fitness. The Spaniard
suffered a small tear in his right thigh; however, Barcelona won the game 0-1 against Mallorca while being away from home.
5th April: Even though he was expected to miss most of the season, he showed great recovery in almost a week and on this date, he was given another
medical clear up by the doctors. Soon, he was seen on the training ground alongside the rest of the Barcelona players.
13th April: Another sad blow for the Barcelona fans as they found out that the Spanish midfielder has suffered from another muscular pain during the
training. It was a great cause of concern for the Barcelona medical squad as Iniesta looked to be a crucial part of the midfield, but he was just not getting fit enough to perform for the Spanish side.
16th May: Josep Guardiola decided to play Andres Iniesta in the last fixture of the Spanish La Liga. It was a special moment for him as Barcelona faced
Real Valladolid and won the game 4-0 at the Nou Camp to lift the 20th Spanish La Liga title - an exciting moment for Iniesta as he might not have been played because of his injury, but he still appeared as the coach knew how much it meant for him.
20th May: Despite the fact that Andres Iniesta was not showing extraordinary form or fitness for Barcelona, he still was selected in the Spanish squad
that was to travel to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup 2010. The Spanish midfielder was called up by the Spanish national team’s coach Vicente Del Bosque because he just knew how important Iniesta could be for their side.
8th June: He took another blow in his muscle while playing a friendly game for his international team as they faced Poland. Even though he looked to
be “down and out” he was still passed as “fit” for the FIFA World Cup 2010.
16th June: The Spanish side faced their first opponents of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and Andres Iniesta looks to be in extraordinary form. The Spaniard
later took a bad blow from a tackle that was given by the Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner. The Swiss full back charged onto him and slid in while the Spanish side were 1 goal down during the game. As the Swiss defeated them and shocked the world, Iniesta
was seen limping off the ground during the game.
21st June: He missed his second game for the Spanish side as they managed to defeat Honduras with a 2-goal margin – both goals coming from the newly
signed Barcelona striker David Villa.
25th June: The Spaniards face Chile in a “must win” group stage game. Andres Iniesta made his return to the starting line up of the Spanish team and
showed great form. Not only did he play fabulously throughout the game, but he also managed to score the second goal to take his team to the second round of the FIFA World Cup 2010 as Spain won 1-2 against the South American side Chile.
