Andres Iniesta and the year 2010 (Part 3)
29th June: With the Spanish side becoming a part of the pre-quarterfinal stage of the FIFA World Cup 2010, they were seen pairing up with a very strong
European team, Portugal. The game was very intense and later it was Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and David Villa who combined well on the left side of the 18-yard box, which resulted in the only goal of the game.
3rd July: The Spanish midfielder became an important figure in the midfield for the Spanish side. With Xavi Hernandez playing with Sergio Busquets and
Xabi Alonso in the centre midfield, it was Andres Iniesta who was seen making runs forward as he helped the centre midfield join the striking force of the Spanish team. With Fernando Torres not finding his form, it was Andres Iniesta, who featured either on
the left flank or on the right flank for the Spanish team to help them score goals. On 3rd July, the Spanish side were facing the South American team Paraguay and it was Iniesta yet again helping his team with another wonderful assist as they won
the game and reached the semi final of the FIFA World Cup 2010.
7th July: The Spanish midfield sensation played the full 90 minutes of the semi final match against a very strong looking German side. The Germans looked
to be in full swing as they managed to defeat the two hot favourites team that were expected to win the World Cup, England and Argentina. With Iniesta playing for the Spanish side, the Spaniards advanced to their first ever FIFA World Cup final.
11th July: Andres Iniesta’s greatest moment came during the FIFA World Cup 2010 final. The Spanish midfielder found himself right behind the Dutch defensive
wall as a through pass from the Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas found his feet and he made no mistake to strike the ball into the net. His celebration was almost like the one after the game against Chelsea as he took his shirt off, only this time he revealed
a message, which was dedicated to the former Spain captain Daniel Jarque.
12th July: When the Spaniards finally won their first ever FIFA World Cup 2010, they returned to Spain to begin their celebrations in Madrid; however,
there was a little speech given by the Spanish President, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and he praised to Andres Iniesta. The President’s words were:
““If the captain and the rest of the players will let me, I’d like to especially congratulate a person who represents like nobody else, the essence of good football and human quality. There is no better
reference point for us than Iniesta. Thank you, Andres for remembering Dani on such an unforgettable day.”
9th August: Iniesta became the only World Cup player who was not called up for the friendly game against the South American side Mexico. Despite the
fact that the Spanish midfielder was given a rest by the Spanish national team, he still had to attend the pre-season training for Barcelona as the winning goal scorer of the FIFA World Cup 2010 final was only given a holiday of 29 days.
