Andres Iniesta speaks to the Press
Barcelona were to face Levante, last Sunday, as their first opponents in the year 2011. It was not an easy task for the all-winning La Blaugrana since they were missing out on a few key players. The two centre backs Gerard Pique
and Carles Puyol did not feature in the game. Former Manchester United player Gerard Pique missed the game due to suspension as he took his tally of yellow cards to red during his last game. On the other hand, Carles Puyol pulled up a groin injury while performing
for Catalonia as they faced Honduras in a friendly game.
Meanwhile, one of the three Ballon d’Or finalists, Andres Iniesta had to say a lot after the game. The World Cup’s winning goal scorer knew that it was a “hard fought” win against Levante and Barcelona only won by a single goal.
It was Pedro Rodriguez, who found the back of the net twice and helped the team take all three points at the Nou Camp.
Andres Iniesta said that even though Barcelona won only with a single goal, the important thing is that they got all three points from it. He said that by winning the team gets a lot of boost because now, they have started the
New Year with a win and that gives the team confidence. The Spaniard stated that the team tried its best to find the back of the net, but all that they achieved came in the second half and not in the first.
Iniesta also told the press how he was aware of the great statistics that his team has kept during the season. He said that the team has eleven consecutive league wins, which means that everything is going right for them. He then
rated the upcoming fixture against Athletic Club as a “life or death game.” He said that they “have to” do things right in San Mames in order to qualify for the next round.
After winning the game, Andres Iniesta dedicated the win to Xavi Hernandez who equalled his number of appearances with the former Barcelona centre back Migueli – the player who appeared for the Catalan Giants for the highest number
of times. Andres Iniesta said, “The win matters more than anything else and I dedicate it to Xavi.”
Andres Iniesta then spoke about the FIFA Ballon d’Or award of the year 2010. The award will go out to one of the three Barcelona players – Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta. All three of them had a spectacular year.
While Lionel Messi scored the highest number of goals in Europe, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta helped the Spanish national team win the FIFA World Cup 2010.
When asked whether he would like to win the award or not? The Spanish midfielder shrugged the question off by stating the fact that he is “too busy” to think about it at the moment. He said that he would be happy to win or lose
because the award is going to be coming to the Nou Camp in any case. However, he also added to this by saying that it is too early to think about it. The midfield maestro stated that all he cares about at the moment is the next game that his team are going
to play because he likes to live in the moment. Finally, he said that all three of them are going to be a part of the ceremony and they will enjoy and see who the winner is on that particular date.
