Andres Molteni battles past Julio Cesar Campozano in 2nd round – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Argentinean Andres Molteni duels past Ecuadorian wildcard entrant Julio Cesar Campozano in the second round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
Both the challengers battled racquets against each other on the classic clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador and after a lengthy three hours and thirty minutes the Argentinean player surprised the Ecuadorian wildcard entrant by bouncing back from a set down to score 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 on Wednesday the 23rd of November 2011.
Both the players were extremely competitive and from the very beginning they matched a blow for a blow. Nonetheless, the first set of the match was bagged by Campozano; he had hit sixty percent of his first serves on target and bagged a sixty three percent of his first service points.
Although, both the players had saved a fifty percent of their breaks points and also capitalized on a fifty percent of their breakpoints but Campozano had benefitted from one extra break.
Moreover, he not only had a good service game but also an average return which enabled him to secure the opening set with a fifty three percent of his total points in the initial round.
Amidst the second set, Campozano nosedived in the second set and was unable to take a notch higher in his performance. However, Molteni made a wonderful return and improved his service game as well as his return.
Molteni not only smashed two aces but also managed to save all four of his breakpoints. Moreover, by capitalizing on a single breakpoint he clogged the second set. At the end of both the sets, each player had bagged a set each.
Commencing the third and decisive set was Molteni and this both the players bartered in breaks during the first two games. From there onwards the players matched an eye for an eye and both held their respective serves. The score progressed on even terms for the first ten games and each player had bagged five games each.
The match could’ve moved into a tiebreaker at this point but it was a very fortunate day for the Argentinean player as he held his serve in the eleventh game. However, Campozano’s crosscourt shot went long and he erred, at which point Molteni had sealed his victory or the set and the match.
In doing so; the Argentinean managed to reserve a spot in the quarterfinal of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011 where he will be facing Italian Matteo Viola.
