Andres Molteni struggles past Walter Trusendi into main draw – Palermo Challenger 2011
Argentine Andres Molteni grabbed a spot in the main round of ATP Challenger tour after going through a vicious battle against Italian international, Walter Trusendi. Palermo crowd was looking ahead to an exciting encounter and
they were not disappointed at all.
Molteni started the match in a lethargic manner losing the first set by a margin but then he increased the momentum and turnaround the results to his favor. Italian started the match in a promising style winning the first set but
then the class and enthusiasm of Argentine was too good for him and he lost the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and forty eight minutes.
Both contenders were facing each other for the first time so first set was jig-saw puzzle for them as they explored each other’s game play and technique. Molteni stepped in as a favorite of the two because of his better ranking
but was stunned by the response from the 307th ranked Trusendi. Trusendi managed to slink through the first set with ease, winning it with substantial margin. This opened up the game for both contenders with Trusendi having an upper hand by clinching
the first set.
Second set kicked off in a delightful manner. Molteni picked up the pace and managed to secure 67% serve points. Both players were on the spot with their serves as no one had a single double fault in the second set. Trusendi was
convincing with this struggle to win the second set and but Molteni didn’t lost grip on the match and secured the second set. This leveled the score with 1 set apiece and now it was time for the final set to take place. The favorite was back with a bang and
now it was all set for him to grab the last set and move to next round.
Trusendi was committed throughout the match and had a firm belief that he could cause an upset but Molteni was not ready to give any more chances to the Italian. He took the lead at the start of the third set and cruised his way
through to victory. His technique was sound and his temperament was outclassed.
Nevertheless, Trusendi played well and didn’t disappoint the crowd who were there to see a competitive contest. The match was well poised but Trusendi couldn’t capitalize on his exciting start. Molteni played the remaining two
sets at his will, maneuvered the ball to his likings and drained Trusendi’s stamina to secure a berth in the main draw of the event.
