Andres Quadri intercepts Italo Antonassi in group stage of 2012 Pan Am Junior Team Event
Men’s Singles shuttler Andres Quadri exhibited premium badminton skills and outshined Italo Antonassi in group stage of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
This 50-minute tussle was first Singles tie of Group B match between Brazil and Mexico and both contenders displayed commendable fighting spirit to entertain the local crowd at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
They remained head-to-head for three exhausting sets before ending this hard fought battle with final result of 13-21, 21-18 and 15-21.
The Mexican campaigner, who was looking to revive his form after failure against USA, played impeccable badminton in the opening and ending part of the match.
Andres Quadri got into commanding position immediately in the beginning of first set when he placed decent total of 5-2.
He did not lose this momentum and grabbed three consecutive points after 6-3 which helped him to establish a six-point lead.
This initial deficit proved a severe blow to the opposing shuttler who could not rise until 11-5 margin.
However, Antonassi put a decent fight after one-minute interval as he raised his total to 9-11 with an unbeatable campaign.
He showed spark also in the final stage but that was not enough to burn down Andres who ended the first set with a favourable figure of 21-13.
The Mexican shuttler showed transformed character in very next game and brought the contest to the right balance.
This time he employed unusual tactics and gained an early advantage with 6-3. He managed to go with same flow and finished the first half by registering notable margin of 11-7.
Later part of the game started with some gruelling rallies as both players put all they got to hit the mark but Antonassi survived this nerve-racking battle with 21-18 score on the board.
With this revised status, the decider became crucial as both contenders were just one step away either from a splendid victory or a woeful defeat.
They remained toe-to-toe until 11-10 before the interval but then Andres struck hard and locked the honour. He bagged ten out of the ending 15 points to conclude this tussle with a staggering knock of 21-15.
