Andres Romero takes second place at the Memorial Tournament
Andres Romero fired a five-under par 67 in the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at the Muirfield Village Golf Club to share the second spot on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Romero made a brilliant run on the front nine of the course and went three-under par with the help of three birdies.
However, he recorded two back-to-back bogeys right at the start of the back nine, which proved to be a huge disappointment for him.
Yet, he did not lose his confidence and continued playing good shots. Once again that paid off in the form of two birdies and an eagle.
Overall, it was a great round considering the fact that not many players succeeded to break the par on the final day.
Moreover, it was the best score of the day as no one got past the five-under mark.
His final score at the end of the tournament was seven-under par 281, just two strokes behind the winner, Tiger Woods.
According to him, he would have forced the game to enter the playoffs, if he had not faltered on the 10th and 11th holes that took away two strokes from him.
As a result, he had a trail by the same number of strokes at the end that he lost on the specified holes.
His only win on the PGA Tour came in Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe came when he defeated Søren Hansen and Oliver Wilson with a three-stroke margin in 2007.
Therefore, it was a great chance for him to end his five-year title drought on the tour. Yet, he was happy to make a good finish in one of the most prestigious non-major events around the world.
In the meantime, the overnight leader Spencer Levin faltered and recorded a three-over par 75 to slip to a lower position on the leaderboard to tie for the fourth position.
Levin looked pretty well on the front nine of the course and recorded a birdie along with eight par putts.
However, the back nine of the course witnessed him make three bogeys and a double bogey that spoiled his chances of registering the first PGA Tour victory of his career.
