Andres Torres continues with big hits after coming off Disabled List - MLB Update
Centre fielder, Andres Torres proves that his injury has not affected his ability of hitting big. Ever since he has left the Disabled List and joined the line-up, he has been connecting cleanly.
By the time he sustained an injury, the New York Mets had to deal with troubling dilemma of finding a replacement.
Since Torres met with injury at the start of the season when his contribution was to become decisive, it was considered a huge setback to the Mets’ chances.
Under the fact that financial crisis loomed over the club and not many quality hitters had been added to roster back then, finding a substitute of his calibre was tough.
Finally Kirk Nieuwenhuis was selected and given a chance in the Majors. Nieuwenhuis turned out an instant success and the Mets set off their 2012 regular season journey in style. Their offence even without Torres had been among the most formidable in the
Division.
Nieuwenhuis has registered a .304 batting average, with two homers and 10 RBIs. It is something the Mets can be cheerful about.
With an entry of Torres back to season, the Mets’ offence has strengthened further.
Part of the reason of his success in this season is a kind of bat he is using. In the past, he used to have heavier bat, which will hinder his way to strike a hit against fastballs. Because of the same reason, Torres did not perform well last year.
With his new bat, he just goes on the plate and manoeuvers the throws that he is facing to wherever he aims to send them.
"The lighter bat feels better and gives me a tighter swing," said Torres."It's all part of the new approach, and I really like the whole thing."
If the Mets can get over their pitching related issues, they have everything that can make them strongest in their Division.
As their offence has solidified further with Torres, with even little support from their pitchers, the Mets can win matches now.
In a game against the Philadelphia Phillies, despite their pitchers giving up runs, their offence, up surged by presence of Torres, helped them come from behind and run away with the victory.
That stunning victory against the Phillies puts light on a kind of fighting spirit, existence of Torres in the line-up has instilled in the club.
