Andres Torres injured again, compounding worries for New York Mets - MLB Update
In a game Andres Torres helped his side to victory was not to prove good for him in the end as he ended up being sent back to clubs’ Spring Training stadium for recuperation after aggravating his calf injury.
It was a poor run on a catch off Tyler Pastornicky's hit and as he was unable to latch on it properly, he hurt his calf injury in the process.
h**l-bent to appear in Spring Training, he had got rid of his calf injury recently. He also had managed to play last few Spring Training games with the Mets against the New York Yankees.
Just when he started seeing his composure on the plate maturing and looking poised to make valuable contribution, he was back to where he started from.
Now as he languishes on the disabled list and goes through rehabilitation process, he will be repeating the same process he finished off with in the last couple of months.
The fact Mets have entered regular season with minimal chances to make any impact, his injury will exacerbate their performance in the season.
His career record of 27 home-runs and a .243 batting average promises nothing like propelling the Mets to new heights, as it just indicates the part he can play for a side experiencing a downfall.
His significance was not lost even in today’s game against Atlanta Braves when he stood out as the only player reaching home plate for the Mets and thus ensuring them victory in a low scoring game.
Positive for Mets however is that, as per the words of manager Terry Collins, he can be back soon. Terming the injury not as severe as one he just recuperated from, he says his sitting on the disabled list can soon come to halt.
The manager did acknowledge however that for an outfielder slightest of the injuries matters for the kind of role they play in the field.
''Still, when you rely on your legs, it's a serious injury,'' Collins said.
As Mets move forward to fulfil their next regular season assignments, they will be looking forward to an equally reliable option at the outfield for so long as he is on the disabled list.
