Andres Torres shines as San Francisco Giants defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 – MLB Update
Andres Torres put in a good performance as the San Francisco Giants defeated Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 at AT&T Park, San Francisco on Wednesday, May 11.
The Giants have been successful lately, which is quite an improvement from the way they were struggling just a few weeks back. The Giants were being harshly criticised for their poor offence and there were times when their ace pitcher Tim Lincecum delivered
carelessly. Things seem to be changing around for them now, as Andres Torres and Mark DeRosa return from their time at the Disabled List to deepen the Giants’ bench. Things are looking brighter for the reigning World Series Champions.
This was the second match of the regular season series between the Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants had already won the first match in the series so it was imperative that the Diamondbacks win this one if they had any hopes of winning the
series, but things didn’t quite go their way and the Giants ended up winning the second game out of the three game series. Even if the Diamondbacks win the next game, the Champions would still win the series but it’s likely that Giants will be gearing for
a three game sweep.
The first run of the game came from the Diamondbacks’ side in the very first inning as Stephen Drew grounded to first and Kelly Johnson scored while Ryan Robert effectively moved himself to third base.
The second inning saw Henry Blanco singling to the left-field off which Gerardo Parra scored and Bolanco then moved himself to second base on the advancing throw.
In the fourth inning, Blanco’s home-run which flew 390 feet was the first of the game. This was also the last run the Diamondbacks would score for the rest of the game.
The Giants managed to score twice in the fourth inning as Miguel Tejada singled towards left-field and Buster Posey scored. During the play, Aaron Rowand moved himself to second base. The second run of the fourth inning came from Rowand as Tejada moved to
third base while Sanchez went over to second on a wild pitch by Armando Galarraga.
The fifth inning saw the second home-run of the game by Aubrey Huff and covered a distance of 405 feet.
The last change in the scoreboard came as Andres Torres hit a double to deep centre-field off which Tejada scored.
